Hi Everyone

My name is Jennifer Carless. I am 16 years of age and I am a student working towards a qualification as an Orthopaedic Veterinary Consultant.

I am also Miss North Yorkshire (Charity Queen), this being my title as a Finalist for Miss England 2020/21.

In addition I am an Official Ambassador for WASUP, (World Against Single Use Plastic). I am honoured to be given this role! Since becoming Ambassador in July of this year, amongst a lot of other work, I have been in contact with my MP David Davis and the Prime Minster Boris Johnson, regarding WASUP, the damage caused by Single use Plastic and that we need to make a difference to save our planet, for my generations and many more to come.

I have also had numerous meetings with and about WASUP with other organisations. I recently introduced my Miss England sponsor Sue Stone of the Sue Stone foundation to WASUP. I am delighted to say they are now collaborating, this being another step further to raising awareness about WASUP and making a difference. As part of the collaboration with WASUP the Sue Stone Foundation are very kindly donating 10% extra on top of your donation to go towards funding for WASUP.

Additionally, I contacted Harry Gration MBE of BBC Look North and Professor Dan Parsons at Hull University about the issues we have regarding single use plastics, following a recent report on BBC Look North. It is of particular concern during COVID, with regard to the PPE we are using, having plastic in for example, Single use facemasks and gloves. These are causing a major issue in our environment, therefore, I feel we should be and need to be looking at a more sustainable answer.

Throughout all this I have been in numerous newspaper publications and various other press, raising the awareness for WASUP with my Miss England journey.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this little insight into a few projects I have completed so far.

Hi Everyone!

My name is Isobel Lines (19), a sports science student at the University of Worcester, based in the Black Country. I have been competing in Miss England for 4 years now and last year at the Semi Finals, I had the pleasure of meeting Professor Gatrad who introduced to me the project ‘WASUP’. At the time, the project was still called ‘Walsall Against Single Use Plastic’ which had a great connection to myself as I was born at Manor Hospital, Walsall.

Since meeting Prof Gatrad a year ago last week, I have been actively involved in the development and positive progression of WASUP which is now known as ‘World Against Single Use Plastic’. In 2019, I attended Canal cleans in Walsall, judged the WASUP exhibition at Walsall College and performed at the WASUP Musical Gala. In 2020, I launched WASUP in Worcester, raised over £250 for the cause at a University event and have now become an official ambassador for the project as well as taking a lead on the marketing.

I am super excited to continue working for the cause and look forward to working with local schools within the community on plastic pollution.
